Halos 400 na ang naitalang patay sa bagyong Odette.
Umakyat na sa 389 mula sa 378 ang nasawi dahil sa bagyong Odette, ayon sa National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Sa panayam ng CNN Philippines kay NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal, nasa 60 pa rin ang nawawala at 1,146 sugatan.
Kung ikukumpara sa bagyong Maring noong October na may 19 na naitalang namatay, malaking pinsala sa buhay ang iniwan ng bagyong Odette.
Samantala, umabot naman 481,992 na bahay ang napinsala kasama na ang lubusang nasira na nasa 160,000, dagdag pa ni Timbal.
“What we are seeing right now as a lesson here is that we have to continue making sure that we build resilient structures,” ayon kay Timbal.
“If you notice the power sector, other utilities, telecoms and water, they were severely affected by the storm. Essentially, we have to strengthen these structures so they would be able to bear these major emergencies.”
Sa kabuuan, mayroong 430 lugar sa 38 probinsya ang naapektuhan ng bagyo.
“There are some of the affected populations that were telling us that they haven’t received relief items still. We’d like to ask the affected population, our countrymen that if they’re expecting for a house-to-house delivery of the relief items, that’s going to be difficult for the LGUs because the very employees of the LGUs were the victims of the storm themselves.”
“The response of the NDRRMC to Typhoon Odette were all according to our plan. Meaning to say, our arrangements provide for advanced preparedness and the building of preparedness to effective response,” dagdag pa ni Timbal.
