Nakahabol sa Pasko sa Pilipinas ang higit 300 distressed overseas Filipino workers mula Riyadh, Saudi Arabia nang maiuwi ng gobyerno, ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Umabot sa 354 stranded OFWs ang dumating sa Maynila nitong December 23 sa pamamagitan ng special repatriation flight na pinangunahan ng DFA.
“Knowing full well a Filipino’s yearning to be with their loved ones during Christmas, the government exerted its utmost to bring home our kababayan so that they could celebrate this season of cheer with their families,” pahayag ni Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola.
Sasailalim naman muna sa mahigpit na facility-based quarantine ang OFWs para masigurong ligtas sila at walang positibo sa COVID-19.
Ayon kay Arriola na nabigyan ng pag-asa na makauwi ang mga nasabing OFW dahil wala silang makuhang flight pauwi ng bansa.
“The repatriates expressed thanks for the opportunity to be reunited with their families, thanking the Philippine government for mounting the special repatriation flight,” dagdag pa ni Arriola
