Tatlong milyong senior citizens ang hindi pa nababakunahan sa Pilipinas laban sa COVID-19, ayon sa World Health Organization.
Binigyang-diin ni Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, WHO representative to the Philippines, dapat i-prioritize ang pag-fully vaccinate sa lahat ng matatanda sa halip na unahin ang pagbibigay ng third dose sa mga nabakunahan na.
“The priority is to provide the first and second doses to those who have not been able to get a single shot, which is about three million people unfortunately still in the Philippines among the elderly,” pahayag ni Abeyasinghe sa isang public briefing.
Base sa National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard nitong October 24, nasa 4,596,925 senior citizen ang fully vaccinated laban sa COVID-19.
Third dose
Samantala, inirerekomenda ng WHO ang third dose sa mga immunocompromised individuals dahil hindi nila kayang panatilihin ang sapat na immunity ng katawan.
“We have said that our position now is that a third may be provided to immunocompromised people if they finished their two doses,” saad pa ni Abeyasinghe.
Iginiit pa ni Abeyasinghe ang rekomendayon ng WHO na turukan ng third dose ang mga nabakunahan na ng first at second dose ng Sinovac o Sinopharm mula sa China.
“We will also recommend a third dose for elderlies of above 60 years who received either Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccines,” dagdag pa ni Abeyasinghe.
