Aabot na sa P12 trilyon ang utang ng Pilipinas na ginamit para sa COVID-19 response, ayon sa Bureau of Treasury (BTr).
Sa kasalukuyan, naitala ang utang ng gobyerno sa P11.97 trilyon.
Giit ng BTr, ang pagtaas ng utang ay dahil sa ‘net issuance of domestic securities.’
Dinepensahan naman ni Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III ang paglobo ng utang ng bansa.
“I would like to emphasize again that the increase in our debt level is only temporary. It did not stem from profligate public spending, but rather resulted from a universal shock that deteriorated the financial positions of almost all countries around the world,” saad ni Dominguez.
